PROJECTS
Title: Enhancing the Environment for Preservation of Superb Parrots
Program: Bushcare
Description: Superb Parrots have been frequenting this area for a number of years. This project is hoped to create more feeding areas and safer habitat ie more hidng areas from predators. Bronze-wing pigeons have also been making a comeback in the area having not been seen for many years.
Funding: (2000/2001) $15,860; (2001/2002) $16,700; Total Australian Government Funding $32,560
Title: 2004 Revegetation Project for the Methul Rannock Landcare Group
Program: NRM
Description: This project will establish over 3500 trees as tubestock and a further 21.1 km of seeded trees. The project covers eleven different farming enterprises in the Methul and Rannock farming areas. Protective fencing covering 11.6 km will be erected and maintained to sustain the establishment of biodiversity. Some salinity has been found in the area and some hilltops are being planted with trees to minimise erosion. The project will concentrate on extending and joining existing sites.
Funding: (2003/2004) $22,540
Title: 2005 Revegetation and Drought Recovery near Coolamon
Program: NRM
Description: This project will construct 9.06 km of fencing in drought affected areas to assist regeneration of local flora and attract local fauna. This project will also revegetate these drought affected areas by using 3250 indigenous bushes and trees. The project will maintain and manage the regrowth through the area.
Funding: (2004/2005) $20,790
Title: Promote and Enhance Methul Rannock Landcare Area
Program: NRM
Description: The area around 'The Hill' 20km North of Coolamon is typical of the region with much of the significant native vegetation confined to the roadside. Existing remnant vegetation on 'The Hill' consists mainly of mature Eucalyptus and Callitsis species in small clumps typically less than 1/4 ha in area and scattered across the property. Whilst these mature trees provide valuable habitat for native fauna the lack of understorey plants and recruitment regrowth reduces the overall habitat value of this vegetation and increases the likelihood of premature senescence. Additionally the sparsely disturbed remnants have little impact on reducing erosion from either wind or water. A number of vegetation corridors have been established on the property. These radiate out from a stand of remnant vegetation. The aim of this project is to link two of these vegetation corridors with a vegetative corridor on neighbouring property that in turn adjoins the existing remnant vegetation or nearby roadside. This project will allow movement of animals to widen their food supply and habitation by providing stands large enought to sustain communities of native animals.
